Forum: feature_films Subject: Flash Gordon copyright?

Some time back, I wanted to upload the original 'Flash Gordon' serial (starring Larry 'Buster' Crabbe) but it was suggested it's in copyright so I didn't. I just did another search and each chapter of that and 'Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars' only appeared in a list of titles when I checked on copyright.gov. The entry is dated 1979-03-19 and date of execution 23rd January 1979. In notes it just says 'assignment' to the expected King Features Syndicate and Universal City.

Is this really a legitimate copyright notice? Also, there are loads of cheap dvd's of this serial in the UK, all of which carry the TV version with the title 'Flash Gordon - Space Soldiers' which I can't find a copyright notice for.

I'm pretty ignorant in these things, can I upload this serial? I have both the original and TV versions - I've not noticed any difference aside from the title.
